Review Of Motorola Deluxe ic902 (Sprint)
REVIEW:
The Motorola Deluxe ic902 is good multimedia handset produced by Motorola. Deluxe ic902 is the he first PowerSource phone to have Sprint’s EV-DO data plan in the package. That means the ic902 has access to Sprint’s multimedia Power Vision network, which includes on demand information channels, Sprint TV and Sprint Music Store. It’s a multimedia handset so it packs in a hefty multimedia features such as a microSD card slot, 2.0-megapixel camera and an MP3 player. Motorola Deluxe ic902 truly combines the best of both Sprint and Nextel in a single package, despite a rather dull design. It also features Nextel’s rock-solid PTT offerings and GPS as well. The price of the ic902 is on a higher side but with its great features and design it’s actually worth it.

Motorola Deluxe ic902 is certainly not a design-centric device and it’s in a gun-metal gray color. It’s quite bulky and will probably weigh you down quite a bit. We were happy to see that it has got a color external display as not many Nextel phones have color external displays. The display of the Motorola Deluxe ic902 supports 262,000 colors. It shows battery life, time, signal strength, caller ID and date. It also displays music player tracks, photo caller ID and acts as a camera viewfinder.
Volume rocker, the headset jack and a PTT button are on the left spine above the bottom flap. There are dedicated camera buttons and music player controls on the right side of the top flap. Camera lens with flash is sitting above the external display and to the upper left side of the top flap sits a microSD card slot.
Flip open the phone and you’ll see a lovely 262,000-color, 2.2-inch diagonal internal display and it also has cute and colorful icons that show off the bright display and its good resolution (240×320 pixels). You can’t adjust the font size or brightness you can only adjust the screen’s backlight timer. There are two soft keys, a middle Menu/OK key, a back key, a four-way toggle that double as four user-defined shortcuts and the Talk and End/Power keys. All these keys plus the ones on the alphanumeric keypad are tactile, large, and easy to dial by feel.
Now come to its features Motorola Deluxe ic902 is a full-featured multimedia device with plenty of support for Sprint services as well. Deluxe ic902 comes with a generous 1,000-entry phone book, with room in each entry for five numbers, a Web address, a birth date, a memo, a walkie-talkie number, a job title and company name and an e-mail address. They can also be grouped into categories, assigned a picture for caller ID, plus one of 19 polyphonic ringtones. Some other basic essentials include a vibrate mode, a calendar, a file manager, a calculator, a world clock, a currency converter and a notepad. On the higher end, there’s text and multimedia messaging, e-mail, voice dialing, voice recording, instant messaging, GPS, plus a SIM manager that helps you manage your contacts.
The ic902 supports Direct Talk, which allows out-of-network walkie-talkie chats with another Direct Talk phone of up to six miles. It also supports Nextel’s Direct Connect walkie-talkie service, which includes Group Connect that lets you talk up to 20 other people at once. Now come to its multimedia features. The ic902 has a pretty decent music player, which is comparable to the one on the LG Muziq. You can simultaneously download songs to the PC and wirelessly to the phone. Songs can be categorized by artist, title, and genres, plus you can create your own play list.
The camera of the Motorola Deluxe ic902 can take pictures in five resolutions and three image quality settings. There are some other options that include white balance settings, color effects, fun frames, six shutter sounds, brightness setting and multiple shots. The photo quality of the camera is awesome. The camcorder mode records clips in two lengths: 30 seconds for video mail, and for as long as there’s available memory for regular video. You can record videos in three resolutions. You can personalize the ic902 with a selection of menu layouts, screen savers, and clock styles.

MAIN POINT
The Motorola Deluxe ic902 supports both the Sprint and Nextel networks. The photo quality and call quality is great. On the downside The Motorola Deluxe ic902 has a lackluster and boring design. It’s also a little on the clunky side. So I give 2.5 stars out of 5 stars to it.
