Review Of Motorola i335 (Nextel)

REVIEW:
It’s been long time since we we’ve reviewed a Nextel cell phone. And we know how successful Nextel has been so far. And with its new Motorola i335, iDEN is back. Sporting Nextel markings only the i335 combines traditional Nextel design with a dose of modern style. It doesn’t have a camera and that’s the main problem of this handset. Its candy bar body is durable and tough. The i335 is the thinnest Nextel handset to date. The price of the i335 is not that much and affordable for the users.

Motorola i335 (Nextel) Motorola i335 has everything that a mobiles needs to have. The design of the handset is great. The sturdy candy bar model looks like it could take quite a beating. Motorola i335 is the first Nextel phone to make a trend for the thin handsets. The design of the phone is simple and practical and that’s the reason why is succeeds. The display of the phone supports 65,536 colors. The photos and graphics aren’t very sharp as we expected it to be. You can change the display’s text size and backlighting time.

The i335′s navigational array and keypad buttons are coated in a rubbery, soft-touch material that makes them user friendly and very tactile. Large numbers and bright backlighting on the keys made it easy to dial in the dark. The navigation array consists of two soft keys, the standard Nextel menu shortcut, and a speakerphone shortcut, a four-way toggle with a central OK button and the Talk and End/power keys. On the other hand, you can program the toggle to act as a shortcut to four user-designed functions. Completing the exterior of the phone on the left spine is a volume rocker and the Direct Connect button. There’s also a covered mini-USB port and a covered 2.5mm headset jack. . And in another change from previous Nextel models, the i335 has an internal antenna. On the bottom end of the phone is the single speaker.

The 600-contact phone book has room in each entry for seven phone numbers, an IP address, an e-mail address, a Direct Connect number and a Talk group number. The i335 skips the latest cell phone trends du jour–namely, a megapixel camera, 3G supports and a music player–in favor of the basics. Some other essentials include text and multimedia messaging, a calendar, notepad, call timers, a vibrate mode and call forwarding. On the higher end i335 also offers Bluetooth and voice dialing. You’ll also find Group Connect, which lets you chat with up to 20 others via PTT at once and Direct Talk which gives you out-of-network walkie-talkie chat with another Direct Talk handset at a range of up to 6 miles.

You can personalize the i335 with a choice of alert sounds, themes and wallpapers. You can always download more options with the WAP 2.0 wireless Web browser. Alternatively, you get a fair choice of Java (J2ME) applications, including five game demos.

MAIN POINT
The Motorola i335 has a durable, user-friendly design. It has got great features as well and an excellent call quality as well. But on the downside the i335 has a dim internal display and the directional keys on the navigation toggle are too thin. So I give 2.5 stars out of 5 stars to it.
