Review Of Motorola i425 – Titanium (Boost Mobile)

REVIEW:
Motorola is known for its experiments in making mobile phone and not often that you see a thin iDEN cell phone. But as a rule iDEN handsets tend to be big and bulky. And that’s the reason why Boost and Motorola Mobile, felt the need to introduce the Motorola i425, billed as the thinnest iDEN phone. The features of the i425 are simple and are limited to some extent. The i425 casts a trim profile that should appeal to svelte phone fans. This is a phone about making calls, which is something it accomplishes well. The price of the i425 is easily affordable for its users.

Motorola i425 - titanium (Boost Mobile)

As we said earlier Motorola i425 has a very simple design. It’s extremely thin but it weighs a bit more than you might think. The i425 fits comfortably in the hands and give a nice solid feeling to the hands. The display of the i425 supports 65,536 colors, the pixel resolution is rather low (130×130). Like many iDEN phones, the i425′s 1.5-inch display fails to impress. You can change the display’s text size, contrast and backlight time. The colors of the i425 are muted and the graphics are not sharp either.

Now come to its keypad buttons and navigation controls. All controls are covered in a cheap-feeling plastic material, which doesn’t make them very tactile. All keys are flat with the surface of the phone and the navigation buttons are rather squashed together. So as a result it’s difficult to dial and text quickly and by feel. There’s also a Web browser shortcut, and you can program the toggle to give one-touch access to four user-defined functions. There’s a four-way toggle with two soft keys, Talk and End/power keys, a central OK button and a dedicated menu control. Below the keypad buttons of the i425 is a dedicated speakerphone control. The backlighting in the keys is fine, though the Talk and End buttons are difficult to see in the dark.

On the left spine are the PTT button and a volume rocker. A mini-USB/charger port and a headset jack are below them. The side controls are well designed. The i425 doesn’t offer much in the features department, as it’s designed primarily to make calls. There’s a 600-contact phone book with room in each entry for eight phone numbers (including a PTT number), an IP address, and an e-mail address. You can pair contacts with one of 20 polyphonic ringtones, the i425 doesn’t offer photo caller ID. Some basic essentials include text and multimedia messaging, call timers, a memo pad, a vibrate mode, instant messaging and a voice recorder. You can personalize the i425 with a variety of color themes and wallpapers.
