Review Of Motorola Q9h (AT&T)
REVIEW:
Motorola is known to produce some fantastic handsets with amazing designs and features. Motorola Q9h fits into this category very well. It has got some good features, and great design. It’s slightly heavier and wider than its predecessor Motorola Q9m for Verizon Wireless. But it has got a better QWERTY keyboard and more features, such as HSDPA, GPS and 2 megapixel camera than the Q9m. The battery is however is on the lower side. The Windows Mobile 6 smartphone also excels at messaging and offers multimedia performance and solid call quality. Motorola Q9h has all the qualities in itself that a mobile needs to be successful in the market. The price of the Q9h is not that much and it’s easily affordable for the users.
Motorola Q9h features a more robust body that has both downfalls and perks. The smartphone is s still relatively thin overall but wider than the first Q, while holding in the hands you will notice the difference between both of them. Q9h is comfortable to use as a messaging device. But the extra width makes it’s slightly awkward to use as phone sometimes. The weight is okay, you should be able to slip the Q9h smartphone into a pants pocket, though it may make for a tight fit.

The screen of the Q9h support 65,536-colors. Given the larger size of the phone, we think Motorola could have increased the display size just a bit, but still it looks great. Text and images looked sharp and vibrant. There is a revamped navigation array that consists of Talk and End buttons; two soft keys; and shortcuts to the Web browser, Home page; a five-way navigation toggle with a central select key and your message in-box beneath the display.
The Motorola Q9h’s full QWERTY keyboard is one of the best we’ve seen and used to date. But there is not enough spacing between the individual buttons. At the same time they’re large enough that even users with larger thumbs shouldn’t have too much of a problem. The keys are tactile. The number keys are highlighted in blue to make it easier to dial for the user. There are also new shortcut keys such as the calendar, the camera and your contacts on the bottom row to quick-launch various apps.
Motorola Q9h is more about messaging and productivity, unlike the Motorola Q9m, which focused on multimedia. The Q9h works with some other e-mail solutions, including Good Mobile Messaging and AT&T Xpress Mail. The smartphone still runs Windows Mobile 6 Standard Edition, so you get Microsoft’s Direct Push Technology out of the box for real-time e-mail delivery and automatic synchronization with your Outlook calendar, tasks, and contacts via Exchange Server. Motorola opted to forgo the Microsoft Office Mobile Suite in favor of Dataviz’s Documents to Go. It’s a great suite for not only viewing and editing Word, Excel, and PowerPoint documents, but creating them as well. Some other essentials of Motorola Q9h include a notepad, a voice recorder, a task list and a calendar. You can download more programs to personalize the device to your needs; in fact, the Q9h comes with downloadable versions of McAfee VirusScan Mobile and MySpace Mobile already on the handset.
Voice features on the Motorola Q9h include three-way calling, speed dial, quadband world roaming, text and multimedia messaging and conference calling. The phone book is limited only by the available memory, and the SIM card can hold an additional 250 contacts. Each address book entry can hold multiple numbers; company information, Web, e-mail and street addresses. You can assign a group ID, a picture and 39 polyphonic ringtones.
Motorola Q9h works with the carrier’s AT&T Video and AT&T Music services. AT&T Music is a full-featured service that allows you to purchase songs from independent music services, such as Yahoo Music and Napster to Go. Meanwhile, AT&T Video gives you access to streaming video from various channels such as HBO Mobile, Comedy Central, ESPN and CNN.
The camera of the Motorola Q9h is great and equipped with a digital zoom up to 8x, a flash, and video-recording capabilities. The camera takes picture in four resolutions. You can also adjust the picture with white balance and brightness settings. Picture quality is a bit disappointing. Video mode is a bit more limited when it comes to editing abilities.

MAIN POINT
The Motorola Q9h is a great messaging device with a spacious QWERTY keyboard. The Windows Mobile 6 smartphone features HSDPA support; Bluetooth; GPS; world roaming; and a 2-megapixel camera. It can be sluggish at times as well and its battery life is low and it drains quickly. So I give 3 stars out of 5 stars to it.
