Review Of Motorola Razr Maxx Ve (Verizon Wireless)

REVIEW:
In the long line of Motorola Razrs, only a couple models have dared to look different form the others. Razr has always added some new features when they have come up with its new models. This time they have come out with Motorola Razr Maxx Ve. When we heard of Razr Ve we were eagerly awaiting for it to be introduced in the market. There are some improvements in its design from its previous Razr handsets. The features are plenty and its performance is also very good. The price of the Razr Maxx Ven is easily affordable for the users.

Razr Maxx Ve is different from most of its Razr family members. It’s a tad heavier than previous Razr handsets. The sturdier hinge gives the Razr Maxx Ve a slightly more durable feel in the hand. What’s more, the bottom end has a more tapered design than that of previous Razrs. That makes the phone slip into a pocket or bag that much easier.

The external display of the Razr Maxx Ve supports 65,000-color resolution. It shows battery life, signal strength, date, photo caller ID and time and and it acts as a viewfinder for the self-portraits shots. But unfortunately, you can’t change the small text size or the backlighting time.

The music controls are just below the external display. There is an addition to the Razr Maxx Ve feature it offers instant access to the music player when the phone is closed. The camera lens and flash is above the display. The voice-recording/commands button is located on the right spine. A speaker rests on the rear face. On the left spine are the Moto speakerphone/smart key and a volume rocker.

Motorola is always flip-flopping with its display resolution, even on devices in the same family. Though some models, such as GSM Razr V3xx have 262,000-color screens, other handsets such as the Razr Maxx Ve stop at a 65,000-color resolution. The display is quite bright and vivid. Graphics and colors are bright. The brightness and backlighting time are customizable but you can’t change the font size. The navigation array will be very familiar to Razr fans. A circular toggle with a central OK button doubles as shortcut to four user-defined functions. Navigation and keypad buttons are flush with the surface of the handset. Fortunately, a tactile ridge between the individual buttons ridges gives them definition.

The Motorola Razr Maxx Ve has a 1,000-contact phone book with room in each entry for five phone numbers and two e-mail addresses. Some other features include text and multimedia messaging, an alarm clock, a notepad, a world clock and a vibrate mode. On the higher end you will get a voice recorder, e-mail, a speakerphone is also on board, as well as voice commands.

As an EV-DO phone, the Razr Maxx Ve supports the full range of Verizon’s 3G services, including the he V Cast music store and V Cast video service. The music player’s interface is identical to those on other Verizon phones. You also have the option to purchase a variety of Verizon applications, including Chaperone Parent and VZ Navigator.

The Razr Maxx Ve includes a good camera and it takes pictures in four resolutions. Editing options are plenty that include brightness and white balance controls, 10 fun frames, a self-timer and a digital zoom. The flash is quite bright and as previously mentioned, it’s about time we see one on a Razr. The camcorder takes clips with sound in two resolutions. The flash is usable as steady light. The brightness and white balance are adjustable, and you can select a color effect. The photo quality of the phone is quite good.

You can personalize the Razr Maxx Ve with a variety of screen savers, banners, wallpaper, alert sounds and clock formats. You can download more options and more ringtones with the wireless Web browser.

MAIN POINT
The Motorola Razr Maxx Ve includes a couple of improvements to the Razr line that make it the most satisfying CDMA Razr to date. It also offers improved design, good call quality and broad range of features. On the downside the streaming video quality and speakerphone are disappointing. So I give 3 stars out of 5 stars to it.
