Review Of Motorola Rizr Z3 – Blue (T-Mobile)
REVIEW:
Ever since it introduced its popular Razr phone, Motorola has done everything it can to capitalize on two trends: thin phones and it seems that it’s succeeded as well. After the Razr and the bizarrely named Krzr, Motorola now comes up with Rizr Z3. The design of the Rizr Z3 is great. And it also offers good call quality. We also like its solid slider mechanism and the blue color scheme. Its features are good but there’s nothing new in the features to talk about. Slider phones have been popular for a few months now, and the Rizr marks Motorola’s first attempt at the slider design trend.

The Rizr is slightly wider and taller than the Krzr but it also manages to be the tiniest bit thinner. Its weight is more than Krzr but the extra heft gives the Rizr a more solid feel in the hand. Just be aware that like all slider phones, the Rizr won’t cradle the curve of your head like the flip phone Krzr.
We’re very pleased that Motorola chose a 262,000-color display for the Krzr. The improvement over the 65,000-color display on the Krzr is obvious, as text is readable and colors pop. You can change the brightness and the backlighting time but no other options are customizable. The navigation array is also good and Motorola did wonders with it. The five-way toggle doesn’t have to cram it behind a front flap Moto was able to give it some texture by raising it slightly above the surface of the phone. As a result, it’s much easier to use than on its sibling models and our finger didn’t slide around nearly as much. But on the downside the other navigation buttons a Web browser shortcut, a Clear key, the Talk and End/Power buttons and two soft keys are rather small with no clear separation between them.
The keypad button are better or we can say par par with the Krzr. Though they are flat with the surface of the phone due to the slider design, raised ridges between the individual keys give them more definition than on the original Razr. We also like the large numbers and bright backlighting. But on the downside the the top row of buttons is rather close to the bottom end of the slider. On the left spine sits the Motorola Smart key and volume rocker. While on the right spine are a camera shutter, a mini-USB/charger port/headset jack and a voice-dialing button. The camera and flash sit on the top rear face, but sadly, there’s no self-portrait mirror.
On the other hand there are no feature surprises but it remains a satisfying choice for a midrange phone. First, however, we’ll present the basics. Each contact in the Krzr’s Phone Book holds six phone numbers, three street addresses, a nickname, three e-mails and a Web site URL. You can also organize contacts into groups, or pair them with a photo or one of 34 (24-chord) polyphonic ringtones for caller ID. Some other essentials include text and multimedia messaging, a calculator, a voice recorder, a calculator and a vibrate mode. And on the higher end there’s USB 1.1 connectivity, a speakerphone, POP3 and IMAP4 e-mail, PC syncing, full Bluetooth and an integrated Google Mobile application. The MicroSD card slot gives you more room for cards up to a 1GB. On the downside, the card slot is located behind the battery cover, which is tricky to pry off.
The Rizr Z3 has a good quality camera and it can take MPEG4 pictures in four sizes. Some other features include an adjustable exposure setting, an 8x zoom, a self-timer, six color effects, five shutter sounds and a multishot option. The picture quality is poor for a 2 megapixel camera. The camcorder shoots MPEG4 clips in two resolutions with sound; editing options are similar to the still camera. You can personalize the Rizr with a variety of menu styles, color skins, f wallpaper and screensavers.

MAIN POINT
The Motorola Rizr Z3 has a striking design with great navigation controls and display. It also offers pleasant feature set and good call quality. But on the downside Rizr Z3 has shaky speakerphone quality, and the camera didn’t take the best pictures. So I give 2.5 stars out of 5 stars to it.
