Review Of Motorola W755 – Black Slate (Verizon Wireless)

REVIEW:
Motorola is known for its experiments in making great phones and it has produced yet another mobile phone The Motorola W755 for Verizon Wireless. It has got great set of features. It earns a lot of points for just being solid and reliable. It has got brilliant display, easy to use controls, and its performance is satisfying to say the least. The price of the Motorola W755 is affordable for the users.

Motorola W755 - black slate (Verizon Wireless)The W755 has a slim design with a square external display and a tiny camera lens just above. It’s not unattractive by any means, but it is very common. We didn’t mind the extra girth as the phone has a very sturdy and solid feel in the hand. We also liked the soft-touch material on the front and back covers. The W755 comes in dark slate (aka black) or purple. The W755′s hinge is sturdy as well. It’s also a bit unusual in that the front face actually rests behind the rear flap when the phone is open. The 1-inch external display supports 65,000 colors and 96×80 pixels. It also shows the signal strength, battery life, time, date and it also supports photo caller ID and it doubles as a viewfinder for the camera lens. The backlighting is not adjustable but you can change the clock style and wallpaper.

Surrounding the display are touch controls for the music player. You can manage your playlist without even opening the phone. On the left spine you will find Moto smart key and a volume rocker. On the right spine you will find a voice dialing button. When the phone is open it activates the speakerphone and when the W755 is closed it locks the exterior controls.

The 1.9-inch internal display is rather small for the W755′s size, but with 65,000 colors it’s bright and vibrant. The W775′s navigation array is easy to use and it’s spacious as well. You’ll find a four-way toggle with a central OK button, talk and End/power control, a camera/camcorder shortcut, a clear key and two soft keys. The keypad buttons are good and we liked it very much, which are raised slightly with a varying texture. And without making any mistakes we were able to text and dial quickly.

Now come to its features. The Motorola W755 has a 1,000-contact phone book with room in each entry for five phone numbers, notes and two e-mail addresses. Some other essentials include text and multimedia messaging, call recoding, a world clock, a voice recorder and a vibrate mode. On the higher end you’ll find USB mass storage, speaker-independent voice commands, PC syncing, e-mail and instant messaging and full Bluetooth with a stereo profile.

The camera of the Motorola W755 is decent and it takes pictures in four resolutions. There are some other options such as brightness, and white balance settings, a self-timer, nine fun frames, four shutter sounds and a 4x digital zoom. The camcorder shoots clips with sound in one resolution (176×144). There are limited editing options for the camcorder. There is no flash or camcorder light. The photo quality is quite good. The handset comes with about 70MB of shared memory for storing your work. The music player’s interface is identical to those on other Verizon phones. You also have the option to purchase VZ Naviagtor or its Chaperone child locater service and Verizon’s GPS service. As an EV-DO phone, the W755 supports the full range of Verizon’s 3G services including the V Cast video service and the V Cast music store. You can personalize the W755 with a selection of display themes, clock formats, banners and wallpapers.

MAIN POINT
The sturdy Motorola W755 has well-designed controls, and decent feature set. Photo and video quality is brilliant. The call quality is also satisfying. But on the downside it has poor speakerphone and music player is also not satisfying at all. So I give 2.5 stars out of 5 stars to it.
